Back to Work Prep - Get Back on track.

As you return from vacation and realize that work is there waiting for you, prepare yourself and learn how to get the most done. Break out of old routines and follow your body's tempo. These simple suggestions will help you get back into the swing of things:
  • A quick 15 minute walk between 7 and 8 am will make you feel invigorated. The morning sun sets your internal clock, increasing your alertness and energy level.
  • On your commute, listen to "smart talk" radio or tune in to uplifting music. It will prepare your brain for the day.
  • At 10 am, review notes, trade ideas with coworkers or write a proposal. The areas in the brain responsible for reasoning, logic and memory are most active now.
  • Between 11 am -12 pm give a presentation or have a meeting. This is the hour when you'll feel most alert and your vocal chords are at their peak.
  • Select healthy lunchtime foods and avoid eating heavy meals. To reduce sleepiness after lunch, find something minty to chew on.
  • Think about your breathing, it can help you to increase your energy and lower stress. Read our helpful tips at Breathing is Living.
  • Between 2 and 4 pm, complete simple tasks that require less concentration. By this time of the day, your blood pressure and adrenaline have dropped and you are low on energy.
  • Start tackling detail-oriented tasks between 4 and 6 pm. You tend to be more careful and thorough as quitting time approaches.
  • As you prepare yourself to leave for the day, treat yourself to a cup of herbal tea to soothe the senses and make a smooth transition from working time to free time.
